Elena Matamoro (Vigo, 1999) is an artist whose work explores the connection between art, gender, and nature, with a focus on sound creation and performance. Her practice examines the ephemeral, materiality, and critical listening, blending elements of the landscape and the human body. Based between Vigo and Basel, Matamoro studied Fine Arts at the University of Vigo and completed a Master’s in Art, Gender, and Nature at the HGK in Basel. She has participated in exchange programs in Lisbon and Utah and attended the LungA School in Iceland in 2024.

Her notable solo exhibitions include ¿Las escuchas hablar? in Vigo, Reading Silence in Basel. Group exhibitions include Walking Ritual in Seydisfjordur, Vibrations through listening in Basel, The Milk of Dreams at the Biennale di Venezia, and Almost on the verge of collapse in Biel. She has also presented work in Galicia and Pontevedra. Matamoro’s awards include the Novos Valores award (2019) and the Sarasin Foundation grant (2021-2023).

Matamoro’s work seeks to connect landscape and sound, giving a poetic voice to urban and natural spaces. Drawing inspiration from Kandinsky, she treats objects as living beings with their own sound, creating a sensory artistic language.
